What Is Hip Replacement Surgery?

Total hip replacement surgery removes the damage to the hip bone and cartilage and reconstructs the hip joint with prosthetic replacements. Why Patients Choose Oasis Orthopedics in Tijuana, Mexico

Free Phone Consultations

Many patients visit us from the United States and Canada because of the many benefits of medical tourism. A consultation allows us to learn about you and for you to ask any questions before your surgery. We offer free consultations over the phone with patients considering surgery at our Tijuana orthopedic surgeon office.

Affordable Surgery

The cost of total hip replacement in countries like the United States can be prohibitive, keeping patients from receiving life-changing care that allows them to live more comfortable lives. Even without insurance, patients who travel to Mexico can receive quality care at an affordable rate. We offer all-inclusive packages that cover surgery, preoperative testing, a hospital stay, ground transportation, and more. We are always transparent about costs—hip replacement surgery starts at $14,000.

Complimentary Ground Transportation

Our team is here for you at every step of your joint replacement journey. When you arrive at the airport, a team member will be waiting to escort you to the hospital. We also provide ground transportation for a companion so you don't have to go on your hip replacement journey alone.

Bilingual Staff

If you're traveling to Mexico from an English-speaking country like the United States or Canada, you may be worrying about the language barrier. With Oasis Orthopedics, you don't have to. Many of our medical staff and surgical team members speak both English and Spanish, so your care plan can be communicated to you in your native language.
Traveling to Mexico for joint replacement is a great way to receive affordable surgery that's the same quality as it would be in your home country. With our board-certified orthopedic surgeon, you can alleviate pain from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or a hip injury.

Anesthesia

When it's time for your procedure, we will administer general anesthesia so you are unconscious. Joint reconstruction surgery typically takes one to two hours.

Incisions

Your surgeon will create an incision along the side of the thigh to access the hip joint.

Removing Damage

Your surgeon will remove the femoral head, the "ball" in your ball and socket hip joint, and any diseased or damaged parts of the thigh bone. The healthy part of your thigh bone is left intact.

Replacing the Joint

Your artificial hip socket is implanted into your pelvic bone, and the implant stem is implanted into the top of your thigh bone to connect the hip to the thigh for seamless movement.

Recovery

Our team will closely monitor you during your stay at our state-of-the-art hospital in Tijuana. Once you've recovered, transportation will be arranged to take you back to the airport safely.

The Results of Surgery Getting Back to Your Life

While the timeline for a full recovery varies from person to person, many hip replacement patients are doing well about three months after their surgery. You should continue to get better in the year following your surgery in Mexico.

While your pain should subside and your range of motion should improve, you won't be able to do everything you could before your hip became painful. High-impact hobbies like running and basketball can be too stressful on the artificial hip joint. Instead, we recommend low-impact activities like swimming, walking, golfing, and riding a bicycle.

Our lead surgeon, Dr. Gino Perretta, stays up to date on the latest techniques in the field of orthopedics. He is dedicated to helping his patients live pain-free lives in which they can comfortably participate in the activities they love.
